South Land Park Drive has something you won’t find on most streets: a group of Joseph Eichler homes built in 1955 and 1956, which the City named a historic district in 2024. Those houses are lovely, and they’re also a real puzzle to light. South Land Park Christmas light installation covers Eichlers, ranch homes and everything else in this part of Sacramento. Call (916) 313-4551 and say which one you’ve got.

    Eichlers: thin roofs, open beams

An Eichler roof is flat or barely sloped, with exposed beams and very little ordinary fascia board. The usual gutter clip has nothing to grab. So we pick clips to suit the roof edge that’s really there, and we follow the long horizontal lines the architect drew. One clean band of light on that thin edge suits the house better than anything busy. We don’t staple or screw into the beams. On a house like this, restraint is the whole look. Lit wreaths by the entry and stake lighting beside the walk usually round it out.

Ranch homes: one long, low line

Most of the neighborhood is ranch homes from the 1950s through the 1980s. One story, wide front, eave at a friendly ladder height. A ranch roofline is the easiest kind to make look good, as long as the line is level and the corners are crisp. Our clips ride the gutter or the shingle tabs, and the cord drops out of sight behind a downspout. If you’ve got posts holding up a front porch overhang, pillar wraps add a vertical note to all that horizontal.

    Spanish Revival and split-levels

A few Spanish Revival houses are mixed in. Tile roofs need clips made for tile, and nobody should be walking on the tiles themselves, so we work from ladders at the edge. Arched entries are a natural home for lit garland. Split-levels have two roof heights, and we light both so the house doesn’t look half finished after dark.

South Land Park Christmas lights for the yard

These are established mid-century lots, so there’s often a grown tree or two out front. Tree wraps up the trunk and into the low limbs fill in the yard, wound firm but never tight. Driveway stakes stay clear of sprinkler heads. Living near Reichmuth Park, Cooledge Park or Argonaut Park? Folks heading to the park pass your yard at a stroll, which is a nice excuse to do the walkway.

Our crew covers the stretch between Sutterville Road and Florin Road along Freeport Boulevard, plus Land Park to the north and nearby Pocket-Greenhaven. More about house lighting is on our residential Christmas lights page, and there’s a page for Sacramento as a whole.

No HOA that we could find

We looked and found no homeowners association covering South Land Park, so there’s no association window to plan around. Your lights can go up whenever you’re ready for them.

Quotes come out of a phone chat at (916) 313-4551 or snapshots you send over by text or email, or through the contact page. The lights are ours, and a timer turns them off overnight. If a strand quits in December, ring (916) 313-4551 and we’ll get it going again.

Come January the whole display comes down, and the Eichlers get their clean lines back.

Questions we hear in South Land Park

Can you hang lights on an Eichler without damaging it?

Yes. Eichler roofs are flat or low-slope with exposed beams and little fascia, so we choose clips that suit the thin roof edge. Nothing is stapled, nailed or screwed into the beams.

Did you find any association with lighting rules for South Land Park?

We found none. With no association in the picture, there’s no set period for lights, and the January takedown is part of the job.

My ranch house is one story. Is it worth hiring someone?

A single-story roofline is quick for us, yet it still means a ladder, clips, cords and a timer for you. We supply the lights, hang them straight and remove them after the holidays.

I’m near Reichmuth Park. Is the front walk worth lighting?

Yes. People heading to Reichmuth, Cooledge or Argonaut Park pass at a stroll, so stakes along the walk and something at the door get noticed.
