Some College Greens houses still belong to the family that bought them new, or to the kids who grew up in them. Some owners here bought about 60 years ago and never left. That’s a lot of Decembers spent hauling the same ladder out of the same garage. If this is the year somebody else climbs it, College Greens Christmas light installation is one phone call. We bring the lights, and we take them away again in January.

Passing the ladder to someone else

We hear a version of the same story all over 95826. Dad always did the lights. Dad is now 80 and has opinions about how it should look, but nobody wants him on the roof. We’ll do it his way. Tell us at (916) 313-4551 how the house has always been done and we’ll hang it that way, or freshen it up if you’re ready for a change. We bring new strands, so the tangled box in the rafters can finally retire.

College Greens Christmas light installation, front yard first

The homes here are traditional three- and four-bedroom family houses with roomy front yards, narrow side yards and plenty of trees. Each of those shapes the job.

A roomy front yard sets the house back from the street, so the roofline needs to carry. We run roofline lights along the full front eave and up any gable facing the road, on clips that leave gutters and shingles exactly as they were. Narrow side yards are the reason we rarely light the sides. There’s little room to stand a ladder safely, and the only audience is the fence.

Then the yard itself. With that much lawn out front, stake lighting along the walkway or the driveway pulls the eye from the curb to the door. We set each stake by hand and steer around sprinkler heads. Trees get wrapped at the trunk and into the lower limbs. If you have several, pick the one closest to the street and let it be the star. We explain the options on our tree lighting page.

At the door, porch posts take a pillar wrap, a lit wreath hangs on a padded hanger, and lit garland frames the entry. A timer runs all of it, on at dusk and off whenever you say.

    Condos, townhomes and Golden Palms

College-Glen has no master HOA. The College-Glen Neighborhood Association is a voluntary group, so most single-family owners here have no display rules to follow at all. The exceptions sit closer to the American River, where the condo and townhome complexes have their own associations. If you own in one of those, check your current rules, then call (916) 313-4551 before we schedule. Both hanging day and the January pickup get scheduled to suit that paperwork. Shared entries and common-area trees aren’t ours to light.

Golden Palms Mobile Home Estates is gated, so we’ll need to be let in on install day and again for takedown. Manufactured homes light up nicely, by the way. We use clips suited to the trim and skip anything that pierces siding or skirting.

Students next door, commuters on the train

Sacramento State is right nearby, and the College Greens light rail station brings a steady trickle of people through on foot in the evening. If your house is on a walking route to the station, the porch and the front path matter as much as the roof, because that’s the height people see.

We work College Greens along with River Park just downriver and the rest of our Sacramento neighborhoods.

Photos, a phone call and a January pickup

We don’t schedule estimate appointments. Snap a wide picture of your house’s street side, text or email it, and we’ll call with a quote. Our contact page takes photos too. Or just talk us through it at (916) 313-4551. Should a stretch of lights go dark in December, one call puts us back on your block.

And Dad can supervise from a lawn chair. He’ll want to.

Questions we hear in College Greens

Do houses in College-Glen answer to an association for holiday lights?

Mostly no. There is no master HOA, and the College-Glen Neighborhood Association is voluntary. Condo and townhome complexes near the river have their own associations, so owners there should check their current rules.

Can you get into Golden Palms Mobile Home Estates?

Yes, as long as you let us through the gate on install day and again in January for takedown. We use clips that don’t puncture siding or skirting.

My parents are the original owners and can’t do the ladder anymore. Can you copy their old layout?

Gladly. Describe it or send an old photo and we’ll hang it the same way with our own lights.

Why don’t you light the sides of the house?

Side yards in College Greens are narrow, so there’s little safe ladder room and almost nobody can see the lights. We put the effort where it shows, facing the street.
